Are You Asking the ‘One Key Question?’ July 29, 2015 A vital screening for women can now be initiated with one simple question: “Would you like to become pregnant in the next year?” This question is the foundation of the One Key Question Initiative — a campaign which aims to improve effective contraceptive use among women at risk of unintended pregnancy. The initiative was developed by the Oregon Foundation for Reproductive Health. The concept is simple—this straightforward, nonjudgmental question is a conversation starter for the woman’s primary care provider to offer either prenatal, preconception or contraceptive care, and empowers a woman to plan her health care needs in support of her goals for her and her family. A groundbreaking health metricOregon is first in the nation to adopt a preventative reproductive health metric to ensure women are receiving proactive care. The 2015 metric for Oregon’s coordinated care organizations is intended to improve health outcomes by: Implementing pregnancy intention screenings to reduce unintended pregnancies, and Providing effective contraception for women who do not wish to become pregnant.
